Michael Beer’s surname was celebrated by media editors and headline-writers everywhere when he burst onto the national scene a couple of years ago. With a bagful of wickets in the domestic season, Beer brought that talent to the Perth Scorchers’ standing as the side’s most economical bowler over the past few years. The man known as “Frosty” was a late bloomer as far as Australia duties were concerned, going from Western Australia debut to his first selection for the national XI within five first-class games. Beer was awarded his Baggy Green in January, 2011, for Australia’s fifth Test of the Ashes series in Sydney. He took the wicket of Paul Collingwood in his 38 overs at a tight economical rate of 2.94. Injury hindered the second-half of his 2012/13 season, but Beer remains WA’s front-line spinner as he pushes for a national recall, having captured wickets in plenty for the Warriors.
