One of the most naturally-gifted batsmen in the Indian domestic circuit, Sharma is a prolific run-getter at the first-class level, and his batting is all about grace and elegance. While he was part of India’s victorious 2007 ICC World Twenty20 team, Sharma is yet to make an impact on the international front, despite having played more than 100 ODIs. The most consistent of the Deccan Chargers batsmen in the first three seasons of the IPL, Sharma was roped in by the Mumbai Indians prior to IPL 2011. While he has always saved his best for the IPL as a batsman, amassing as many as 1938 runs over the six seasons, 2013 saw another side to Sharma’s cricket – leadership. When MI’s out-of-form captain, Ricky Ponting decided to sit out, the reins were handed over to Sharma, who eventually led the team to their awaited IPL title. That led to Sharma’s elevation from MI’s stand-in captain to their full-time skipper, in CLT20.
