A native of Ikhar in Gujarat, Munaf Patel made his entry into domestic cricket as a tearaway fast bowler. Unassuming and reserved, and one who shows little emotion on the field, Munaf goes about the business of picking wickets silently. The 29-year-old has had to contend with frequent injuries right through his career. As a result, he has cut down on his pace, but is still just as effective. While he was part of India’s ICC World Cup-winning squad in 2011, Patel hasn’t been able to seal his spot in the playing XI. In the first three editions of the IPL, he was a vital cog in the Rajasthan Royals’ bowling attack. He was subsequently signed by the Mumbai Indians at the IPL Players Auction in 2011. Patel finished as MI’s third highest wicket-taker in IPL 2012 with 15 wickets in 12 matches.
