“Billy” is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm, medium fast bowler who can also keep wicket. An adaptable batsman, who can put his foot on the accelerator when required, Bilal joined Hampshire on a one-year contract at the start of the 2012 season and immediately made his mark, scoring 93 on debut. A former Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire player, Bilal also has two unusual claims to fame: being the youngest Championship player in Notts’ history (at 16) and he was the object of Ricky Ponting’s anger when asked to assist (as 12th man) in the last wicket partnership of Jimmy Anderson and Monty Panesar during a nervy draw in the final moments England’s first Test in Cardiff in 2009.
