A rare Indian fast bowler, Umesh Yadav grew up in a small dwelling in a mine-workers' settlement about five kilometers from Khaparkheda in Nagpur and played leather-ball cricket for the first time around 2007-08. He has since made rapid strides in his development as a cricketer. He earned his India cap after only two seasons of domestic cricket and was one of the few success stories on India’s tour of Australia in 2011-12. The son of a coalmine worker, Umesh has emerged as an important cog in the India line-up.

The pacer considers swing and bounce his strengths, and worked diligently on sharpening his skills with the coaches at Delhi Daredevils as well. He was signed by the Delhi Daredevils at IPL Player Auction 2011. The 2012 IPL season, when he picked 19 wickets from 17 matches, has been his most successful IPL season yet.

In the 2014 IPL Player Auction, Umesh was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders. After an injury lay off, the young pacer made his way back into the circuit and is back in the reckoning. He bowled in tandem with Morkel and co. in IPL 2014 and picked 11 wickets in the edition. After a successful outing with the India A team in Australia, Yadav is firing on all cylinders and raring to go.
