The bustling all-rounder has a glittering T20 resume Hopes was a key contributor to Brisbane Heat’s triumphant KFC Big Bash League, 2012, with his economical bowling and astute captaincy in particular. The highlight of his campaign was a man-of-the-match performance in a vital win over the Melbourne Stars at the Gabba in front of more than 24,000 fans, where he scored 49 while opening the batting and took 3-28. He was a man on a mission in BBL 2012 after playing just the opening match in the inaugural KFC T20 Big Bash League summer. The Heat captain fought a frustrating battle against a nagging knee injury that ultimately saw him face fitness tests on no less than four occasions, but not play again in that tournament. The consolation was a decent one though, with a fully fit Hopes able to skipper the Queensland Bulls to a Sheffield Shield win a few months later. Hopes was a member of the Kings XI Punjab IPL squad for three seasons and spent 2011 with the Delhi Daredevils, where he captained the side in the absence of Virender Sehwag. He has also played 84 one-day internationals for Australia.
