My blood was pumping in the last over: Marchant de Lange

Titans pacer breaks down his match-winning performance against Brisbane Heat

How many times have we seen low-scoring games yielding the most interesting results. At the PCA stadium in Mohali, when the Titans could manage just 123 runs in their first essay against the Brisbane Heat, few would have thought that they would be the ones emerging victorious at the end of it.

No one gave the South African club a chance to win, especially when the opposition had the likes of James Hopes, Joe Burns and Dan Christian in its batting line-up. But the Titans bowlers stuck to their plans and backed themselves to defend a low score. The most impressive of the lot – Marchant de Lange who was adjudged the Man of the Match for his bowling figures of 4-0-13-3 – spoke to clt20.com about his performance and the adrenaline rush he experienced while bowling the crucial, last over of the match.

Excerpts from his interview:

How would you describe this performance by the team and you, especially after the loss in the previous game?

Fantastic I would say. The first game was a bit of an upset and we went back to the basics and just tried to get our areas right and stick to our game plans. After the loss and going for runs in the first game, I am really happy with this performance and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will take it.

After scoring just 123, did you guys back yourself to defend such a low total?

We were not satisfied with the score. I reckon 140-150 could have been a really decent score, but whatever gets put on the board, as a bowling unit you have got to try your best to defend it. It is always tough to defend a low total, but we had good game plans and we stuck to them – which paid off.

Quick wickets early on in the innings would obviously have helped the cause

Oh absolutely, it is always good to strike up front and get the other team on the back foot. We struck as early as in the third over and then got two quick wickets in one over when I bowled the fifth. I would say, this wicket suited the South African skills a bit more and it was really enjoyable to bowl here.

With 10 required off the final over, you were given the ball. What was going through your mind when you were in that pressure-cooker situation?

There was a little bit of blood pumping when I was given the last over to bowl (Smiles). It was a job given to me. I wanted to be in a positive mindset, because if you have negative thoughts under such circumstances, it gets tough. I just stuck to what I knew and I am glad things fell into place. I really enjoyed bowling under that much of pressure. I am always up for a challenge and it was an enjoyable game.

Two games left for the Titans, this win should keep the team in good spirits for the tournament ahead

Yes, but we would like to take it game by game and not think too forward.
