It is all systems go for the start of the fourth edition of the Karbonn Smart Champions League Twenty20 which gets under way with the Qualifier in less than a week’s time.

“The Karbonn Smart Champions League Twenty20 is a unique competition that showcases the domestic champions from around the world. We will be privileged to see superstars from all corners of the globe such as Sachin Tendulkar (India), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan), Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka), Shane Watson (Australia), who has been the standout performer at the current ICC World Twenty20, Jacques Kallis (South Africa), Kieron Pollard (West Indies), Brendon McCullum (New Zealand) and Kevin Pietersen (England),” said Cricket SA Acting CEO, Jacques Faul.

“We had a very successful meeting of the various operational teams, including those at the four individual venues, last week and from that perspective everything is in place for a very successful tournament. We are fortunate to have at our disposal some of the game’s most experienced administrators from India, Australia and South Africa,” added Faul.

The next step is the arrival of the various playing squads with the six teams from England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, New Zealand and the West Indies arriving this coming weekend ahead of their qualifying competition which starts next Tuesday. The competition is going to be intense with only two teams qualifying for the tournament proper.

“It is not only those stars who will thrill the fans both at the grounds and on ESPN Star Sports and its broadcasters around the globe, but also the emergence of a new era of stars who have yet to cut their teeth on the international stage,” commented Tournament Director, Naasei Appiah.
