Mumbai Indians team up with MSSA
IPL franchise to promote various school sports in Mumbai
Mumbai Indians, the most followed IPL team and the Champions’ League T20 (CLT20) defending champions, today announced its partnership with Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) to develop and support sports tournaments amongst Mumbai schools across 20 disciplines such as Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Judo, Indian Games (Kho-Kho, Kabaddi), Lawn Tennis, Squash, Table-Tennis, Throwball and Volleyball.
Nita Ambani strongly believes that “sports, as part of education, help develop behavioral skills and shape the character of young people to succeed in life. MSSA provides a unique platform to instill a strong sporting culture in our education system, by conducting events at the grass roots level for both boys and girls in the Under-8 to Under-16 categories. Mumbai Indians looks forward to working closely with MSSA in promoting sports as an integral part of education. This is a significant step for Mumbai Indians in its efforts to strongly promote other sports beyond cricket at the grassroots level. ”
Mumbai Indians will also explore various opportunities such as coaching programs, infrastructure development, health & nutrition programs by bringing in expert advice to enhance the sports experience for students.
As part of the partnership, all MSSA organized inter-school tournaments will be branded as ‘MSSA-Mumbai Indians Inter-school tournament’ from the current year.

MSSA is one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious sports promoting bodies established in 1893 and has been organizing inter-school sports tournaments for its member schools in Mumbai for 119 years now.
The Mumbai Schools Sports Association, started by Sir Dorabji Jamshedji Tata in 1893, formally known as The Bombay High Schools Athletic Association, is one of the oldest sports body of its kind in Asia, which organizes and conducts tournaments in 20 disciplines of sports from the grass root level such as Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Judo, Indian Games, Lawn Tennis, Squash, Table-Tennis, Throwball and Volleyball. Some of the prestigious tournaments under MSSA are: Harris Shield Cricket (since 1896), Giles Shield Cricket (Since 1901), Junior Aga Khan Hockey (1901), Tata Shield Athletics (since 1893).
