Preview: Match 17 – Chennai Super Kings vs Yorkshire
Two teams looking to finish the tournament on a high
Match 17 of the Karbonn CLT20 2012 features the Chennai Super Kings and Yorkshire.
Both teams are out of the reckoning for a place in the semi-finals and will only be playing for pride. The Chennai Super Kings will be the more confident of the two teams heading into this match; they beat the Mumbai Indians in a thrilling match on Saturday and will be hoping to carry forward the confidence into this match.
Yorkshire on the other hand came a close second in their previous match against the Highveld Lions. After a strong showing in the Qualifiers, the team has struggled in the main tournament. They could only muster 96 batting first in the match against the Sydney Sixers and then failed to defend 131 in the match against the Lions. They will want to finish the tournament on a high.

Murali Vijay and Faf du Plessis were in smashing form in the last match against the Mumbai Indians. Given that they bat at the top of the innings when the field restrictions are in place, they, along with Suresh Raina, should rank as the most important batsmen in the team. It was also good to see MS Dhoni play freely in the previous match – even if it was only for a very brief period. His team will be very well served if he continues to play in that carefree manner – which was reminiscent of the old MS Dhoni.
Yorkshire have struggled because their batsmen haven’t cracked the code to put up a big score on the board. They need the experienced Phil Jaques to come good at the top of the innings; the southpaw has scored runs in both the innings, but the runs haven’t come at the desirable pace, and more importantly, he hasn’t converted them to big scores. Adil Rashid was impressive in the two matches in the Qualifiers, but he hasn’t carried the same form into the main tournament, and that has hurt the team.
This match will be the first time these two teams will be meeting in a Twenty20 match.
The Chennai Super Kings will go into this match with happy memories of playing at Durban; they have won their last three matches at the venue.
With this fixture, both teams complete their Karbonn CLT20 2012 campaign. After a poor tournament, both teams will be hoping to come back to the tournament next season and put up a better performance.
