Preview: Match 15 - Perth Scorchers vs Delhi Daredevils

Can the Scorchers keep the Daredevils batsmen quiet?

What

Match 15 of the Karbonn CLT20 2012 will see the Delhi Daredevils take on the Perth Scorchers.

The Scorchers are looking for their first win in the Group stage of the competition, while the Delhi Daredevils have one win and two more points from their washed out fixture against the Auckland Aces. The IPL outfit will be aware that a win here will propel them to the top of the table and ensure them a place in the semi-finals.

On paper and on the basis of current form, the Delhi Daredevils – who boast the most dangerous batting line-up in the competition – certainly start as favourites. Given how much is riding on this match, expect them to come out all guns blazing.

When

Sunday, October 21, 2012, 1:30 p.m. (5:00 p.m. IST)

Where

New Lands Stadium, Cape Town

The Protagonists

Though the Delhi Daredevils’ formidable batting line-up didn’t quite fire in the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the team posted a challenging total and then defended it successfully. That just goes to show how good a team they are. Kevin Pietersen has been in the news in recent times; the 32-year-old has earned back his place in the England Test squad, and he will be hoping to celebrate it with a strong performance in this match.

It is difficult to single out one performer in the Delhi Daredevils bowling line-up. In Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav they have two bowlers who can bowl the heavy ball and make good use of the hard track at the Wanderers, while Irfan Pathan and Ajit Agarkar are good exponents of swing bowling and they could be a handful if there is a little moisture in the track.

Though he might not set the field on fire, Shaun Marsh is a very important player in the Perth Scorchers’ line-up. After getting out cheaply in the first match, the left-hand opener came good in the rain-curtailed match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He will be keen to carry that form into this match, as will Simon Katich who played well in the match against KKR.

Previous Meetings

This match will be the first time these two teams will be meeting in a Twenty20 match.

Trivia

What next?

Both teams will play their final Group fixtures on October 23. While the Perth Scorchers take on the Auckland Aces in the afternoon game, the Delhi Daredevils will be pitted against the Titans in the evening.
