Hope to get into semi-finals: Wiese

Titans all-rounder talks about his team’s preparations ahead of all-important DD game

When the regular bowlers couldn’t do much to put the brakes on the rampaging Kolkata Knight Riders, the Titans captain handed the ball to David Wiese. And when given the opportunity, the long-haired, tall all-rounder claimed the key wicket of Jacques Kallis and conceded 5.50 runs per over when some of the regular bowlers were hit for over 10 runs an over. Although they lost the game by a big margin, the Titans will be playing their next match at home to seal a spot in the semi-finals of CLT20 2012.

Speaking to clt20.com ahead of their match against the Delhi Daredevils at Supersport Park, Wiese talked about his performance and the crucial match against the Delhi Daredevils tomorrow.
Excerpts from his brief interview:

On playing the all-important game at home

It is always a nice thing to play at home and you know the ground. But at this stage most of the IPL teams have been getting most of the support at the stadiums.

On his team’s preparation

We have been taking it one game at a time and just because it is a big game for a semi-final spot, it doesn’t mean we are going to be preparing any differently. We have to just keep ourselves going and hopefully the results will go our way.

On whether he was happy with his own performance against KKR

It is always disappointing to get a loss and personally if you do well and the team doesn’t, it doesn’t feel that good. But yes, I got an opportunity and used it quite well.

On whether he considers himself a batting all-rounder

Traditionally they say that, but I also like getting a ball in my hand once in a while and see what I can do with it. I like doing both. Just keeps the game more entertaining.

On playing against Morne Morkel

Hopefully, he doesn’t bowl to me; that is my plan [smiles]. He is a world-class bowler, so we have to see what we can do against him.
On being part of the Titans who have a legacy of producing good cricketers

A lot of top-class players have come from the Titans and that is because of the system that we have. It is a great system. It’s just nice to be able to learn from them and hopefully start to do as well as they have.

On his batting

It is always nice to have a bit of a swing at the ball. In a Twenty20 game you like a little bit of flair and once in a while you go for your shots. But there is also a time when you have to play according to the situation.

On plans for the DD game

We have to keep our own process in mind and hopefully we play well enough to get ourselves a semi-finals spot.
