It was a great game against MI: Murali Vijay
CSK opener talks about his team’s thriller against IPL rivals
Upon beating the Mumbai Indians by six runs, the Chennai Super Kings registered their first win of the CLT20 2012. After Murali Vijay and Faf du Plessis got them off to a good start with an 86-run opening stand, the Super Kings never really looked back. They fought tooth and nail to beat MI at Wanderers today. CSK opener, Vijay, was in high spirits after the thrilling win. When asked about his favourite opener, he promptly replied, “It has to be me!”
While speaking to clt20.com, Murali Vijay talked about the game and even appreciated the effort of MI’s Dinesh Karthik.
Excerpts from his interview:
On his knock and getting the team off to a good start
It is nice to win the match and my contribution helped my team so I am happy about it. It was a great game to be a part of, no doubt about it. Dinesh Karthik played a brilliant knock, you can’t take that away from him. It was a very good game.
On adapting to the conditions here
Actually it’s quite difficult because the conditions here are entirely different from home. It is a little more spongy out here so it is very difficult to get some runs over here. It was a good experience for us. We will take it in our stride and move forward.
On the motivation coming into the game without any hope of getting into the semi-finals
We play for a franchise and they have a reputation, we have built a reputation for ourselves. It is very important for us to maintain the momentum. It is a good game against Mumbai Indians; it is no less game for us because they are a very good opponent and I would play them every time given the opportunity.
On his celebrations every time he takes a catch
I guess I have sobered down because a lot of people have come into the team to take my job [laughs]. Every catch is important in this format of the game and I enjoy every bit of it and it just comes naturally, I don’t plan anything.
On the difference between opening with Michael Hussey and Faf du Plessis
To be honest I love Michael Hussey. As a player he is amazing and is an amazing human being and it is great to be opening with him for a couple of years now. We’ve built a good rapport between us. Faf is an amazing player and he is enthusiastic. It is great fun opening with both of them.
On the last game
If we can get a win over there, there is nothing like it. It will give us confidence and it will be good for us to go back and play in the IPL. We will take this thing into the IPL and we will work hard there.
