Batsmen haven't been consistent enough: Owais Shah

Victory for the Delhi Daredevils may have come really late in the tournament, but there is one player who can look back and be satisfied with his performance. Here is the dashing Daredevil Owais Shah sharing his views on Delhi's performance and the tournament at the post match press conference.

On 114 being a winning score: I think it all really depended on how we went about bowling our overs. If we bowled well in the first six, I think it would have been a good enough total.  We did start very well, we got a wicket in the very first over which is obviously crucial in the Twenty20 form of the game and backed it up by some very disciplined bowling in the first six by Dirk Nannes. Yeah, once we started off the way we did, I thought 114 was good enough.

On players like Sehwag and McGrath being rested: You have to ask the captain that question. I don't select the team.

On the nature of the track upsetting Delhi's chances: I think it has probably played a part to a certain extent but then again you got to play in the conditions that are given to you and it's the same for both the teams. We obviously lost a crucial game in the first round against Victorian Bushrangers, which obviously cost us in the second round where we couldn't afford to lose a game. Yeah I think it would have been better suited for a batting line-up like we have to be playing on a good track I've been told that the track here during IPL 1 was very batting friendly. I think that would have suited us a lot better. But such is life. Hopefully IPL 3 will have a lot better batting track for the Delhi guys.

On the track bring unplayable: Well obviously the scores paint a picture by themselves: 114 to win a game and then we roll the team under a 100. That  tells you that it's not so batting friendly. I think Twenty20 games should be what the crowds want to see: plenty of boundaries.

On Delhi not being able to make it to the semis: I don't think we have been consistent enough with the bat. We've sure got some good starts but we haven't shown the sort of form with the bat that can win matches. Obviously Rahul Dravid and Ross Taylor came and smashed the ball to all parts of the ground and since we didn't have enough runs on the board the other night, it cost us a spot in the next round.

On other teams having the advantage due to the ouster of IPL teams: I don't know how much of an advantage that will have. I know they all play together and obviously the IPL teams have to sort of come together. But even in the IPL teams all the guys do know each other really well. You know we'd reached here for three, four, five days before the tournament started - enough time to sort of get together and play as a unit. And I think at times we have played well as a unit. Just that we haven't been consistent enough in our performances for us to obviously get through.
