3 IPL teams in CLT20 worth US $209 million: Forbes

With a total prize package of US $6 million, Champions League Twenty20 promises to be one of the most lucrative sports competitions in recent history. The contest, to be held between October 8 and 23 in India, boasts of some of the finest domestic clubs across the world. And the IPL, the first among equals in domestic T20 tournaments, is all set to leave its imprint in the inaugural competition. Indian Premier League has been christened The World's Hottest Sports League by Forbes, on the basis of revenue earned in its second season and the total value of its franchises.
Three IPL sides - Season 2009 winners Deccan Chargers, and runners-up, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils, have been invited to participate in CLT20. The teams, according to Forbes' The World's Hottest Sports Leagues survey, are collectively worth US $209 million.
Valued at US $76 million, RCB is the second hottest IPL franchise, edged out of the top of the list by Mumbai Indians who are worth a cool US $80 million. But since Mumbai Indians haven't made it to CLT20, RCB stand tall as the highest valued team in the tournament. They can also flaunt the presence of one of the highest-earning cricketers in the world, Rahul Dravid. Valued at US $5 million, Dravid occupies the fourth spot on Forbes' Top-Earning Cricketers' list.
Following RCB closely are IPL title-holders Deccan Chargers - estimated, by Forbes, to be worth US $73 million. Winning IPL Season 2009 has made them richer by US $1 million and they also stand to earn 50% of the gate receipts from next year's opening and final IPL games.
Delhi Daredevils find themselves lower down the order of the highest valued IPL franchises. They made the seventh spot and are worth US $60 million, according to Forbes.
